Snow Marathon

Yay!! Challenge one complete! This first challenge was always going to be the easiest of the 12 I have set myself for the year, but it was still a challenge of the mind. The plan was to see if I could run a marathon through the snow, as a non-runner, with just the four training runs. It turns out you can if you just potter along, and are okay with the fact you won’t be able to walk the next day, hehe! Sadly the conditions were far from ideal (…and far from the conditions of my training runs in the picture above! A warm evening of torrential rain instead of snow the night before left the trails a mix of sheet ice, freezing cold ponds of meltwater, see the video below (42km of soaking wet feet = blister fest), and then in the sun the trails were shin-deep in soft slippy snow, but who wants things to be easy anyway. In such rubbish snow conditions, it took me a rather lengthy 5 hours, but with only 4 training runs I always knew the only way to get it done was to just potter along, so potter along I did. Maybe an ultra-distance next then ­čÖé
